Voices Discovered: Sami Price

Barbour Spangle had the pleasure of interviewing Sami Price, the owner of Just Priceless, in High Point, NC.  It doesn’t get much better than a family owned business with flowers and gifts in the same place!

Q: How did you wind up in the flower business?

A. My mom had an in house flower business that she started after I graduated from college.  She did weddings and showroom work.  I helped her out when she was desperate.  I helped prepare flowers, fill buckets, etc. – grunt work!  I also didn’t mind copying floral designs, but never did one from scratch.  MANY years later, I was on the hunt for a creative outlet to fulfill my artistic urges and signed up for a booth at the Junior League Holiday bazaar.  I made faux wreaths, garlands, etc and at the last minute decided I needed something “REAL” in the booth! The BUG BIT!

Q: What type of career would you have in an alternate universe?

A. I would work as a Visual Display merchandiser for a company like Anthropologie or someone with a creative vision!!! My favorite thing to do! OR!  I would do freelance wedding flower work….helping flower people I know (or know of, all over the US and Europe)!

Q: What do you wish you knew when first starting that you know now?

A. Retail is challenging and unpredictable.

Q: Best career advice you have ever received?

A. Never put all your eggs in one basket.

Q: Favorite book (business or pleasure)?

A. The Help

Q: Best vacation you have taken?

A. A Dude Ranch when my children were young with my parents…we flew into Albuquerque and drove to Colorado via Santa Fe among other stops.  It was wonderful.

Q: Where would we find you on a Sunday afternoon?

A. At HOME! I try to plan my Sundays spending time at home enjoying some R&R.

Q: What motivates you?

A. I am motivated and inspired by any artistic expression.  Be it a painting, a piece of art work, architecture, magazines, a great store (I am totally a paper girl)!

Q: Your go-to cocktail (or mocktail)?

A. I’m a wine girl. However, I do love me a Gin and Tonic with lime!

Q: What makes you truly happy?

A. Spending time with my children!  They are 26 and 29 and are fun, smart, loving, caring and keep me on my toes…and I think they actually like me!

  2. Always trust your gut.
  3. Be kind and compassionate, it will get you very far.
