HPU Parents Weekend: Places for Panther Parents

A panther statue outside of the Millis Center at High Point University

We simply love having our Panther college students in town, and we love even more when their whole families can join them. To all the HPU newcomers out there and to all the families returning, we want to give you a big High Point Discovered welcome!
Now, to all the moms and dads and family members coming into town this weekend, we know you have a lot planned with your student on campus. But we also know that Parents’ Weekend can be a time when you just want to soak up time with your student who’s been gone all semester. It may also be a good time for students to ask their parents to help them…restock. (Insider tip: students, let your parents get that next round of laundry detergent you’ve been putting off buying.)
So if you’re an HPU parent newbie or a practiced veteran, we want to help you make the most of the time you get to spend with your student – from where to eat, where to grab some groceries, and even where to stop and fill up the car. We’ve got you covered on all the places Panther Parents need to go this Parents’ Weekend.

For When you Need to Shop

A wrapped sandwich from Lulu and Blu

Take a break and grab lunch or dinner at Lulu and Blu on their patio!

Publix Super Market

2005 N. Main St. #101

Okay parents, you know that the first thing you want when you get to HPU is to make sure your student is all stocked up with snacks to make it through the coming weeks. We recommend Publix Super Market. This grocery story has everything you need – and then some – to make sure your mini fridge is well-stocked.

Target

1050 Mall Loop Rd.

Students, you might just find you need to add a few things to your dorm room, like detergent, extra storage, more clothes hangers, and who knows what else. Target has you covered this weekend, for any need you might run into.

High Point Bookstore

Slane Student Center

For all those last-minute textbooks you’ve put off buying, head over to the campus bookstore to take care of any reading needs you might have. Plus, parents and family need to make sure they have plenty of purple Panther gear to wear on the journey home to proudly show off their pride as HPU parents.

For When you Need to Eat

Panther parents and students alike can enjoy a nice night out at Lulu & Blu, High Point’s Italian-inspired restaurant that offers divine dishes and wines. Enjoy a special night out reconnecting over a delicious marsala.

Barberitos

1231 Eastchester Dr. #118

For a quick bite from a local favorite, check out Barberitos. This cantina style restaurant never disappoints with its salsa bar, delicious queso, and made-to-order menu options.

Liberty Brewery & Grill

914 Mall Loop Rd.

Check out High Point’s Liberty Brewery & Grill for a delicious meal. Famous for their steak, comfort foods, and house-made brews, Liberty has something that all Panthers can enjoy this weekend.

Giannos

1124 Eastchester Dr.

A High Point favorite is Giannos. Their amazing Italian cuisine is perfect for a night out, and their pizza buffet at lunch has amazing stone-oven pizza. This restaurant also has plenty of space for groups. If you have a lot of family in town or a large group this is the place to accommodate your needs.

For When you Need to Hang

Farmers Market

901 N. Main St.

One great activity to do as a family is to hit the High Point Farmers Market, located in the pavilion at the High Point Public Library. Open every Saturday (until October 26th) from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, the Farmers Market is a great place to stock up on local products and enjoy some quality time and fresh air together, experiencing local vendors.

Brown Truck Brewery

1234 N. Main St.

Enjoy a night out with your family this weekend and stop by Brown Truck Brewery for some outdoor fun and drinks. Their patio seating, outdoor games and craft beers will make for a memorable night for everyone. (Insider tip: Check out their social media to see if any live music or events will be taking place.)

High Point Bowling Center

309 W. Fairfield Rd.

Do something out of the ordinary this weekend by hitting the bowling lanes at High Point Bowling Center. Enjoy a moment to unwind, laugh together, and make some memories as a family during this Parents’ Weekend.

For When your Ready to Hit the Road

Sheetz

3350 N. Main St.

Okay, so maybe the end of the weekend when you’re packing up to head out isn’t the most exciting time of the weekend. But before you hit the road, head to Sheetz on North Main Street to stock up on fuel for the road and trip snacks to enjoy as you head home.

The most important thing about Parents’ Weekend is to, of course, enjoy the time you get to spend with your students. While the food, drinks, and shopping are exciting, the weekend is really about the quality time and memories you make as a family. From all of us at High Point Discovered, we wish you a safe and enjoyable weekend. Go Panthers!
