Great Places To Take A Walk In High Point

September 18, 2018

Maybe you need to de-stress from a busy day in the office, or you want to take Fido on an adventure after work, or possibly you over indulged this summer and just need some exercise (hey, no judgement here!). Whatever the reason, everyone loves a good walk. Getting out and moving those legs is good for the mind and the body, and with the beauty in and around High Point – you have good reason to get out and pound that pavement!

Neighborhood: Old Emerywood

The beautiful tree lined streets of the historic Emerywood neighborhood in High Point are perfect for an afternoon or evening stroll and with fall fast approaching, we highly recommend enjoying it’s colorful beauty!

Located within the boundaries of Main Street, Lexington Avenue, Westchester Avenue and Chestnut Street, Old Emerywood (as it’s referred to by locals) is within walking distance to many restaurants and shops along Main Street and Lexington Avenue, perfect for a morning jog or as an add-on to your post-dinner walk. Plus, much of the neighborhood has sidewalks so it is great for strollers making it perfect for families. Emerywood is also a dog-friendly neighborhood, just make sure you bring a leash and clean up after Fido, please!

Park: Piedmont Environmental Center

Not just for elementary school field trips, the Piedmont Environmental Center has 11 miles of walking trails and is a great place to locally enjoy the natural world. With tree covered walkways, this is the perfect place to get outside without overheating on sunny days. These trails are mostly dirt and packed gravel which is a lot more shock absorbent, much better for your joints than concrete!  Home to the Bicentennial Greenway, walks here pass through over 376 acres of beautiful hardwood, pine forests, and breathtaking lakeside habitats

City: Uptowne

While it might not come to mind as a “relaxing walk,” taking a stroll through Uptowne High Point can make for an afternoon of exercise, fun and dining!  With the different shops, restaurants, and breweries, a stroll through Uptowne is perfect for those who are looking for some retail therapy or a good place to eat. Insider tip: High Point has some awesome food trucks and they love to park in the Uptowne area! Keep your eyes peeled for a great place to grab a bite to eat!

A Short Drive: Gibson Park

Not too far from High Point is Gibson Park. Located on Wendover Avenue, this park features plenty of covered walking trails, picnic shelters, and sports fields. These beautiful covered paths are pretty flat so the walk is not very difficult. And, like Piedmont Environmental Center, the paths are all natural!
