Creating High Point Holiday Traditions

It’s the smell of your favorite family recipe warm from the oven on Christmas afternoon. It’s the crisp scent of pine needles off the Christmas tree your family buys every year the day after Thanksgiving. It’s the old Christmas song on CD (or maybe even vinyl!) that you play again and again. It’s the taste of rich hot chocolate with just the right amount of marshmallows. It’s the feeling of a crackling fire warm on your face, and your favorite people gathered nearby.

We all know the sights, sounds, tastes and smells that make us remember the feeling of the holidays around this time of year. And we have our holiday traditions to thank for that! Whether your traditions are full of family history, or if your tradition has become to order takeout on Christmas Eve – those rituals are often what slow us down, cause us to reflect, and feel the depth of love, nostalgia, and wonder during the holiday time.

But maybe this year, you’re ready to add to that list of holiday traditions. Maybe you and your family, kids, grandkids, significant other or friends are ready to create a new holiday tradition that is all your own! And High Point at the holidays is the perfect place to find and make new traditions. We have a few we think you should try. Select something or some things new to do this year, mix and match to make the perfect holiday memories you and your loved ones can re-create year after year.

Wesley Memorial Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Join Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church this Friday, December 6 at 6:00 pm for their annual lighting of the Christmas tree. As they sing carols, share hot cocoa, and light the tree, you and your family can celebrate the joy of the season together.

We hope that you find new ways this year to experience the wonder of the holidays. Whatever holiday customs, rituals, and traditions you hold dear to your heart, we hope that High Point is a part of those. After all, the best holidays are the ones spent making memories with those we love — and we love making memories with you, our High Point community.
