Celebrating Freedom in the Furniture Capital
We’re feeling a little “freer” from the worries about the pandemic these days, so we’re thinking about the ways we want to celebrate all of our freedoms right here in High Point. With the long holiday weekend approaching, and so many ways to honor our history here in our hometown, we created a guide to your Fourth of July holiday weekend in HP.
Pay a Visit to the Doughboy Statue
What better way to honor our nation than to honor those from our city who fought to preserve freedom for all? The Doughboy Statue in Downtown High Point commemorates the 600 men from High Point who fought in World War I, as well as the 14 men who gave their lives for their country. Can you spot all of the words on the monument? Honor, Justice, Service, Patriotism.
Stretch Out on Stars and Stripes Weekend
High Point Yoga School is hosting Independence Day Yoga on Saturday at 10:00 AM. Start your holiday weekend off with a little reflection and centering, thanks to the team of yogis at HPYS. Get your freedom and your flow on!
Pack a Picnic to Take to Oak Hollow Lake
Nothing beats a picnic spread of your favorite summer foods eaten in our beautiful HP parks! Pack your cooler with some delicious summer fruits, treats, and drinks from The Budding Artichoke. Or plan to grill out and glaze some of those summer meats with the finger-licking good glazes, rubs, and sauces they offer!
Have a Bike Parade Around the Greenway
From biggest to smallest, each member of your family can enjoy biking (or being pulled in a bike wagon!) at the High Point Greenway. Catch some rays and a summer breeze this Fourth of July weekend by getting active with neighbors and family. And if you’re in need of bike repairs or upgrades, High Point’s Bicycle Toy & Hobby has your back – or should we say, bike!
Find Some Fresh Produce at the Farmers Market
Watermelon. Corn-on-the-cob. Cantaloupe. Create a rainbow of fruity and veggie flavors from local farmers at the High Point Farmers Market. Or plan to make a delicious cobbler for your July 4th dessert from peaches or blueberries. Don’t miss filling your Fourth of July plate with all the fresh deliciousness that you can pick up Saturday morning at the Farmers Market.
Grab a Growler for the Grill
Skip the typical case of Coors, and go local with your beer this weekend. Add a little High Point local brew action to your BBQ by picking up a local growler from one of our fantastic breweries. Goofy Foot Taproom, The Brewer’s Kettle, and Brown Truck Brewery all offer great local beers to add some brews to your weekend.
Jam Out with Uncle Sam
Of course, a Fourth of July weekend in High Point wouldn’t be complete without our beloved Uncle Sam Jam! Hosted by the High Point Parks & Rec Department, gates at Oak Hollow Festival Park open at 4:30 PM for parking. At 4:45 PM, the NC Brass Band takes the stage! Join our city for live music, food vendors, activities, and most importantly – fireworks over Oak Hollow Lake! Since High Point hosts one of the best fireworks shows in the Triad, make sure you grab your camp chair or beach blanket and claim your spot early! (Fireworks show starts at 9:15 PM.)
