A View On: Hillbuildit Creations

When Audrey and Kyle Hill started building their business in the garage, they could never have imagined that today their handmade, custom-built furniture business would be the recipient of over a hundred five-star reviews and accreditation by the Better Business Bureau. Their rustic-inspired furniture has continued to grow in popularity and demand in High Point – and beyond. Read more below to find out about the ins and outs of Hillbuildit Creations.

Q. Tell us about your company in about 10 words.

A. Family, loyalty, custom, craftsmanship, driven, self-taught, faith, blessed, furniture, global.

Q. Why was it started and what was the vision?

A. It was actually started by accident. Kyle had never used a saw, and he’s completely self-taught. It started as more of a hobby for him. I started to post photos of what he was building on my personal Facebook page. People started to ask if he could make them something, and it snowballed from there.

Q. What do you love about your work?

A. Getting to wake up and work towards our own dreams and to be able to do what we love.

Q. What is one thing people would be interested to learn about Hillbuildit Creations?

A.  One of our beautiful tables is in a home in Europe.  Belgium, to be specific

Q. What are the highlights of working in High Point?

A. We have to set ourselves apart from all the local competition, but we also get to meet so many business owners that are in the same industry.

Q. Why did you choose to locate your business in High Point?

A. We both grew up in the Triad so we wanted to keep our roots here.

Q. What has been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

A. Learning the craft and being okay with mistakes. Kyle has never been one to ask for help so learning how to ask someone exactly how they would build a piece has been huge for him.

Q. If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out in High Point, what would it be?

A. Network!

Q. How have the citizens and community of High Point supported you?

A. They’ve purchased different pieces of furniture from us, and even if they financially couldn’t buy a piece, they told others.

Q. What are you excited about for High Point’s future?

A. The economic growth of downtown and how much business it has created.
