A View On: Debeen

June 17, 2018

A day without coffee is like…just kidding.  We have no idea. Thank goodness we have some seriously good coffee in this town.

Debeen Expresso is one of the many gems High Point has to offer locals and visitors alike. This eclectic coffee house provides not only incredible freshly roasted coffee, but you can prepare to feel relaxed and inspired in their space. Their cozy atmosphere is filled with local art and a “zen” fountain that doubles as a koi pond. There is even gelato!

Coffee with a friend is like capturing happiness in a cup!”  Right?!?

Q. Tell us about Debeen in about 10 words.

A. The most established coffee house in High Point since 1997.

Q. Why was it started and what was your vision?

A. It started as an idea by my aunt who lived in the area for several years and my father as the initial investor. The vision, a place for community to make their home away from home. A safe, comfortable and accommodating place for everyone!

Q. What is one thing people would be interested to learn about Debeen?

A. We started on a very small initial investment and word of mouth over 20 years ago. Through community support, internal hard work and ambition to do what it takes to keep moving forward, we continue to evolve and grow.

Q. What are the highlights and challenges of owning/operating your cafe in High Point?

A. We love our community and the support they continuously give, we are nothing without the support of this area!! Challenges: we are always open (and live this quality) so it is never ending work. Staffing tends to be a challenge in this new generation.

Q. Why did you choose to locate DeBeen in High Point?

A. It kept jumping out at me every time we drove by 20 years ago…

Q. How has High Point changed since you started DeBeen?

A. Very slowly, more new businesses and concepts are being introduced. More people are moving into the area and taking a risk to succeed.

Q. What has been your biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?

A. Starting from nothing. I have worked relentlessly in other businesses (restaurant, design, fabric sales) to support my dream as it continued to grow and become a self sustaining company.

Q. How have the citizens and community of High Point supported you?

A. We see many of our customers daily! We embrace their ideas and customize where and when we can. In return, their support is never ending.

Q. If you had one piece of advice for someone just starting out in High Point, what would it be?

A. You must work with determination and with your heart on your sleeve. Nothing comes easy in a small town especially new concepts. However, people are hungry for these improvements to our city!
