A Guide to HP Parks: National Parks & Rec Month

Did you know that July is National Parks & Rec Month? In High Point, with all our great parks, programs, camps, and activities, we feel like every month is Parks & Rec month! But this week, we are highlighting several of the places and programs you can enjoy as a citizen of our great city. From pickleball to paddle boarding, from camps to kayaking, from trailblazing to tennis courts – High Point Parks & Rec has something for everyone this summer.  

What do you want to do this summer at High Point’s Parks & Rec facilities? Look through our list below and find an activity to add to your summer schedule.

Biking  

Grab a bike, grab some friends, and head down to the High Point Greenway or Piedmont Environmental Center to take a spin on your wheels this summer.

Boating 

Did you know the Oak Hollow Marina has a boat launch dock, for sailboats, speed boats, and more?

Crafting 

Bird feeders, tie-dye, shadow box art, and more! Enjoy craft nights at the Oakview Rec Center.  

Dog Training 

Get your furry friend on the right track this summer. Dog training courses are available through the Parks Department every Tuesday night in July and September.

Fishing  

Enjoy bank fishing at Oak Hollow Marina, or launch a boat to enjoy the Oak Hollow Fishing Trail. 

Golfing  

Our beautiful Oak Hollow course, designed by renowned Pinehurst designer, Pete Dye, is a High Point gem! And Blair Park brings its own scenic beauty to our community. Grab a putter and hit the green the green to get a hole-in-one.

Kayaking 

Parks & Rec in HP has kayaking opportunities for all! You can rent a kayak for your own paddle sesh, or you can enjoy intro to kayaking or sunset paddling. 

Paddle Boarding 

Parks & Rec offers everything from paddle boarding fundamentals to glow-in-the-dark paddle boarding, to yoga paddle boarding, so get your paddle on this summer.

Pickleball 

Join the sport that’s taken our city by storm: pickleball! Available at Armstrong Park, as well as at Morehead Rec Center and Oakview Rec Center. Grab a racquet and get pickling!

Tennis 

Ready to perfect your tennis grunt? Pick up a racquet and give your backstroke a try at Oak Hollow Tennis Center. Reserve your indoor or outdoor court now, by calling 336-883-3493.

Swimming 

Slather on the sunscreen and cool off at one of High Point’s community pools, High Point City Lake Pool and Waterslide or Washington Terrace Pool and Waterslide.
